Plumber (Australian Army) ADF Full Time

Role Description:
As an Army Plumber, you will be responsible for the supply and maintenance of plumbing, drainage, sewerage, water supply, roof plumbing, hydraulic and mechanical services, and intermediate gas plumbing. Your company will support the construction, installation, renovation, and repair of domestic, commercial, industrial, and military infrastructure.
Plumbers serve in the Royal Australian Engineers, construction squadrons, and combat engineer regiments.
Your duties may include:
- advising on plumbing and construction matters in exercises and operations
- assisting with site preparation, planning, inspection, and set-out
- Assisting with combat engineering tasks
- checking stores, materials, and equipment
- compiling specifications, scopes of work, and cost estimates
- interpreting building standards, codes, technical literature and data
- interpreting plans, specifications, and drawings
- Maintaining tools and equipment
- performing military duties, including deployment
- preparing bills of materials and purchasing project stores
- providing detailed site sketches
- satisfying Quality Assurance (QA), health and safety, and procurement procedures
- training team members
- general soldiering duties.
Requirements:
- You need to be an Australian citizen to serve in the ADF, although permanent resident non-Australian citizens may be eligible to join.
- You can apply for a role in the ADF from 16.5 years of age and must be at least 17 to join. The maximum age to join is 54 years.
- Completion of Year 10 (or equivalent) education required with passes in English, Consumer Maths, and 2 other subjects, preferably with Industrial Arts content. If you haven’t completed Year 10 but are interested in joining, the ADF may be able to support your application.
- These entry qualifications are the minimum required to facilitate understanding of the engineering principles encountered during later phases of training.
- You don’t need a driving licence for this role but if you have one, it can’t be suspended or cancelled.
- To join the ADF, you must be healthy and physically fit. This is partially assessed from the completion of an extensive questionnaire covering your medical history, followed by a physical examination.
- You’ll also be required to pass a physical fitness assessment successfully.

All Australian Defence Force personnel must have security clearance appropriate to their role. This includes background checks and/or interviews conducted by the Australian Government Security Screening Agency (AGSVA) to ensure the protection of government information and resources. Your career advisor will advise you on the level of security clearance required for your chosen position.
Note: Maths in Society and similarly ‘modified’ maths are not suitable subjects for entry to the Army Technical and Trade Scheme.
Military training
Course: Army Recruit Course
Duration: 10 weeks
Location: Kapooka, Wagga Wagga, NSW
During training, you’ll take part in physical training, weapon handling and shooting, first aid, drill and field craft. You’ll be challenged both mentally and physically.
Although it can be demanding, most recruits gain a sense of achievement, purpose and confidence during basic training, and on completion of the course feel justifiably proud of what they have achieved. The priority of our instructors is to help you succeed
Period of service
You’ll be enlisted for an Initial Minimum Period of Service (IMPS) of 6 years. Subsequent periods of service may be offered subject to the requirements of the ADF and your suitability for further service. You’ll have a Career Coach who can advise on how IMPS will relate to your chosen occupation and personal situation.
You may request discharge anytime, provided you do not have an outstanding IMPS obligation.
