you’ll earn at least: $83,610 per annum

As a fuel specialist, you’ll perform various hands-on technical duties related to fuel operations. Your primary duties will relate to refuelling vehicles, aircraft, and fuel systems out in the field.
And you could operate and maintain power equipment such as oil and gas-fired furnaces, wind tunnels, and test stands. You may also be responsible for the safekeeping, disposal, and preservation of hazardous materials (except explosives and ammunition).
To keep the Army’s top equipment running at peak performance, you’ll need motivation, clear thinking, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
You’ll usually work in small teams but may collaborate with the Army’s helicopter units depending on the mission. In those situations, you’ll be expected to take initiative and work independently, sometimes in remote or isolated environments. Smaller teams may also come to support larger mechanized units during major exercises. Strong teamwork is essential.

Following training, a junior fuel specialist will usually be posted to Townsville or Amberley in QLD.

You need to be an Australian citizen to serve in the ADF, although permanent resident non-Australian citizens may be eligible to join.
You can apply for a role in the ADF from 16.5 years of age, and must be at least 17 to join. The maximum age to join is 58 years.
Completion of Year 10 (or equivalent) education is required with passes in English and Math.
Licenses
For this role, you’ll need an Australian state or territory full, provisional, or probationary C-class license. If your license is suspended or canceled, you won’t be eligible until that suspension or cancellation has been lifted or has expired.
To join the ADF, you must be healthy and physically fit.
You’ll also be required to successfully pass a physical fitness assessment.

This course is designed to provide you with training to conduct refueling operations on the Army’s helicopter fleet.

You’ll be enlisted for an Initial Minimum Period of Service (IMPS) of 2 years.
STEP 1. Apply online
Provide your personal details, academic achievements, and up to 3 job preferences. Once submitted, you’ll receive access to your Candidate Hub, where you’ll need to complete your Supplementary Application Form relating to your education, work experience, hobbies, and other relevant experience.
STEP 2. Complete a Job Opportunities Assessment This is a series of multiple-choice general ability and mathematical ability questions to help determine which service and position(s) you are most likely to be suited to.
STEP 3. Attend a virtual YOU Session
Your Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) sessions are split over multiple days to fit your schedule. Or if you prefer, you can arrange to complete the activities together at one of our ADF Careers Centers. Once done, log back into your Candidate Hub to complete the Medical History Questionnaire.
STEP 4. Attend Assessment
You’ll be invited to an assessment session for a medical assessment, a psychological interview, and an ADF interview. Once you are booked to the assessment session, follow the prompts in the confirmation email. Please ensure you print and sign the Informed Consent form for conducting a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and bring it with you to your session.
STEP 5. Take a fitness test if required
Six weeks prior to joining the ADF, you may be required to take a Pre-entry Fitness Assessment (PFA), completing a specific number of exercises based on the fitness requirement for your chosen job role.
STEP 6. Attend enlistment day
This is the part of the application process where you join the ADF! You’ll receive your official ADF job offer along with your joining instructions and can look forward to the exciting future that lies ahead.
