The electrical generation systems technician is one of seven key construction engineering occupations responsible for delivering construction, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering services in support of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) operations around the world.

Electrical Generation Systems Technicians are members of the Air Force, but may be assigned to work in the Army or Navy environment as members of the Construction Engineering team.
If you pursue a career in the Regular Force, you will be posted to your first base upon completion of all required training. While there is some flexibility regarding postings, accommodations may not always be possible, and relocation should be expected at some point during your career.
Alternatively, if you choose to join the Primary Reserve Force, you will do so through a specific Reserve unit. Outside of training, this unit will serve as your primary workplace on a part-time basis, and you will not be required to relocate. As a member of the Primary Reserve, you typically serve one evening per week and some weekends, with opportunities for full-time employment.
The first stage of training is the Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) course, commonly known as Basic Training. This course is conducted at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-SUR-Richelieu, Quebec. It provides recruits with the fundamental skills and knowledge required across all military trades. A key objective of BMQ is to ensure all recruits meet the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) physical fitness standards, making the training both rigorous and physically demanding.

Part-Time Options
Serve with reserve forces
This position is available for part-time employment with the Primary Reserve at certain locations across Canada. Reserve Force members usually serve part-time with a military unit in their community and may serve while going to school or working at a civilian job.
They are not posted or required to do a military move. However, they can volunteer to move to another base. They may also volunteer for deployment on a military mission within or outside Canada.

Electrical Generation Systems Technicians may serve with the Canadian Army or the Royal Canadian Air Force. They are employed to provide electrical power generation support for CAF training and operations. Those employed on a part-time or casual full-time basis usually serve at a military base, wing, or unit located within Canada.
The CAF offers competitive salaries. Your skills, knowledge, experience, and training can impact your starting salary. As a new direct entry recruit in the Regular Force, you could earn anywhere from $3,614 to $5,304 per month while you complete basic training.

Annual leave is granted on a per-month basis to all full-time members employed for 30 days or more consecutively. Members with less than five years of service are entitled to 20 paid annual leave days per year. This entitlement increases to 25 days after five years of service and reaches 30 days per year after 25 years of service (as outlined in the chart below). Annual leave can generally be scheduled around training and operational commitments.
